Spectacular Residence by the Bay: Waikopua House

Waikopua House was designed by Daniel Marshall Architects and is found at the Waiheke Island, New Zealand. In line with the architects, “the concept that evolved from the premise of a family group camping, creating space between the functional nodes. This was particularly important in allowing space for the boats and water to transport throughout the valley to the bay below. This space was utilized to present physical separation to the guest house in addition a garage. The materials and form were chosen to be empathetic to the landscape and fauna. The home is designed to integrate into the landscape the stone walls were sourced locally, the windows are tinted to restrict reflection and the timber upper level stained dark to blend into the bush behind. It’s been said that the color of the hot Zealand native bush is black. It was important to activate the spaces across the house giving a progression to enjoy. From the lawn overlooking the ocean absorbing the morning light, to the non-public courtyard, framed by the Nikau grove, catching the last rays within the evening whilst enjoying the outdoor fire.
